Maintenance NEXT: Gemba and Smart AIS together make the maintenance chain smarter and more efficient
The offshore, onshore, chemical, technical production, storage and transshipment sectors are all industries in which Gemba and Smart AIS support companies in the maintenance of their assets. Gemba does this as a specialist in asset management with IBM Maximo Application Suite (IBM MAS) applications, Smart AIS primarily as an expert in maintenance inspection and advice. Both companies believe in the power of collaboration within the maintenance chain: doing what you are good at to make that chain function as quickly, efficiently and effectively as possible. This ranges from inspecting assets and registering and analyzing inspection and maintenance data to carrying out maintenance work, with all the information required for this.
Demo on display at Gemba and iTanks
At Maintenance NEXT 2025, Gemba and Smart AIS will visualize the maintenance chain for you in a demo centered around a flange boom. How do different partners work together in the asset maintenance chain? How do technological developments such as AI help to inspect assets more efficiently and speed up and improve the maintenance process? And how is it possible to do more and use people’s time more efficiently, in order to cope with the shortage of mechanics, inspectors and other technical staff? Gemba will show the demo at its own stand (3.210), Smart AIS can be found at the iTanks stand (5.104). Partner Viewport, supplier of the system of the same name for document management, will also provide an explanation of its role in the chain at its stand.
IBM MAS as intelligent hub
The demo shows how an IBM MAS application set up by Gemba has a hub function within the maintenance chain of installations; at the trade fair, this is a flange boom. Maintenance data is collected in the system and analyzed using AI. What is the condition of the asset? And what activities are necessary? IBM MAS also manages these activities, from maintenance inspection to preventive maintenance, repair or replacement. A link with Viewport ensures that all necessary technical documentation can be found centrally and quickly. This includes an overview of the asset structure, the P&ID (process and instrumentation diagram) or digital manuals. The information can be accessed both from IBM MAS and from Viewport and can be found quickly with AI.
Visual inspection with drones and image recognition
Smart AIS is responsible for inspecting the installations. A smart drone with a camera that is controlled from the ground by a drone pilot takes pictures of the asset. The images taken by the drone are analyzed based on an algorithm for corrosion detection. Smart AIS partner Airvision developed this on behalf of Smart AIS. The self-learning algorithm is able to independently recognize corrosion from images. The maintenance experts at Smart AIS then assess the images on which corrosion has been discovered, not the many hundreds of images taken. This allows them to assign the severity and provide maintenance advice much more quickly and on a well-founded basis. The last party in the chain is the contractor who carries out the maintenance work from work orders created in IBM MAS, in this example the piping specialist contractor Spie.
Duo presentation IBM and Gemba AI and asset management: April 9, 11:45 AM
During Maintenance NEXT 2025, you can see with your own eyes how Gemba and Smart AIS, together with other partners and with the latest technology, optimize the maintenance chain. The experts present will be happy to provide you with explanations. So be sure to visit from April 8 to 10 in Ahoy Rotterdam, at the Gemba stand or at iTanks. Also not to be missed: on April 9 from 11:45 AM to 12:30 PM there will be a duo presentation by Ronald Teijken from IBM and Stefan Hoffmanns from Gemba about the possibilities of AI within asset management in the theater on the exhibition floor.
