New IBM Maximo Mobile app: mobile asset management made easy

Are you familiar with the new IBM Maximo Mobile app yet? With this mobile asset management app as an extension of IBM Maximo, your field staff, from maintenance to warehouse employees, can do their work even faster, easier, and more efficiently. Besides a fresh and up-to-date look, what does IBM Maximo Mobile have to offer?

As we wrote in an earlier blog, the upgrade to IBM MAS is not complicated in itself. However, your hardware is a point of attention. Because IBM MAS runs on the Red Hat OpenShift container platform, which places significantly higher hardware demands: you need a multiple of computing power, memory, and storage capacity. In addition, managing your OpenShift platform requires additional knowledge.

Follow the blue button

IBM Maximo Mobile guides your mobile employees through the work process in a very simple way. They don’t have to do more than ‘follow the blue button’. To take the next step in the process, such as registering their hours or recording material consumption, they simply press the blue button on the mobile asset management app. This saves them a lot of clicking and going back and forth.

Fill in offline inspection forms

The inspection forms you have created in IBM Maximo can now also be handled mobile via IBM Maximo Mobile. This is even possible offline. So, if your employees are in a location without internet, they can still fill in the forms. As soon as they are online again, the forms are automatically synchronized with your IBM Maximo asset management system. They can also process all other data about the work performed offline, to be uploaded to IBM Maximo by the app later.

Mobile asset management with smart knowledge base

Do your mobile employees encounter a problem during their work? Then IBM Maximo Mobile offers advice. With the help of the artificial intelligence of the IBM Watson IoT platform, a smart knowledge base is built up around the history of your assets. This allows your employees to draw on all available knowledge and experience. For example, if a pump or other part is malfunctioning and your mechanics can’t figure it out, they simply ask their question via IBM Maximo Mobile and get the relevant answers on a silver platter on their mobile device.

Remote assistance

With IBM Maximo Mobile, it is possible to ask colleagues for help remotely, as a first step of augmented reality. Via photos and video calls, they can watch each other and advise each other if necessary. These images will of course also go into the smart knowledge base. With the new app, your mobile employees can also use the digital twin functionality of IBM Maximo. That is, they can visually request the installation, machine or railway tunnel they are working on, for example, and click through on the picture to find the cause of a problem.

Plenty of conveniences for mobile asset management

The new IBM app offers many more useful features to support your mobile asset management. Think of speaking information instead of typing, for example to record findings in a logbook. The app makes the translation from speech to text. In addition, your employees can work with barcodes and QR codes. For example, a warehouse employee can scan barcodes with IBM Maximo Mobile when issuing goods, while a mechanic can request information about an asset via a QR code. That same mechanic can also read his or her coordinates via IBM Maximo Mobile and easily pass on the location of a malfunction.

Combine with geographic information system

Not new, but worth mentioning is that the mobile asset management app can be used in combination with your geographic information system. This way you can easily send your people to the right location via the app. And if they have completed a job somewhere, they can quickly see on the map whether there is more work within a certain radius that they can pick up. This is much less clear with a work list.

Widely deployable app for mobile asset management

The extensive functionality of IBM Maximo Mobile makes the app suitable for asset management applications in various sectors, from industry to infrastructure, offshore, water boards, logistics and more. Although the mobile asset management app was developed for IBM Maximo Application Suite (MAS), you can also use it if you are still working with IBM Maximo 7.6.1.
